Donald McGill was the artist of the popular seaside postcards during their heyday of the mid 1930s to the mid 1950s. He produced thousands of designs that sold in their millions. Famous, in those strait-laced times, for the sexual innuendo in his jokes, he was prosecuted in 1954 for 'obscenity'.
